May is here and it is blooming with tons of local events to put some color back in our lives. Whether you want to show off how iconic your true self is, celebrate learning the ropes in your new city, or sail away with some yacht rock there is something for everyone sprouting up in Champaign. Queer Prom - May 6
What do Elton’s glasses, Bowie’s lightning bolt, and Lil Nas X’s rhinestone cowboy boots have in common? They could all be used as tributes to some of the most ICONIC queer icons of our time for the return of Queer Prom. Yes, that is right! Shout it loud and proud for everyone to hear! Queer Prom is back, May 6th at the University YMCA! So dust off those heels, throw some glitter in your hair and lets boogie at the most inclusive, affirming party of the year!
Toast to Taylor St - May 7
Let’s all raise a glass to the hippest, most happening block in all of Champaign. At the Toast of Taylor St we will be doing just that! Starting in May, the first Saturday of every month ( through October of course) will be devoted to paying our respects to Taylor St by throwing the coolest party this side of Neil! With a mix of live music, scrumptious bites and delicious drinks, Taylor St is bound to receive the accolades that it deserves.
Free Comic Book Day - May 7
Holy Free Comic Books Batman! To all of our Marvelites and DC Dawgs ( I made that one up but…) – your Spidey senses were right, May 7th is Free Comic Book Day at G-Mart Comics! Head into the shop on Saturday, May 7th and you’ll be able
to walk out with 5 FREE comic books. And did you know if you dug out that sweet Dr. Strange costume you have stored in your closet and you show up in that you would score 10 free comics?! Now aren’t you glad you didn’t listen to your wife when she said get rid of it?
One Night Only : Murder at the Gala - May 7
Mystery! Mayhem! Murder! That’s what is in store for you when you attend CUTC’s annual fundraising event “One Night Only: Murder at the Gala”. As the name suggests, for ONE NIGHT ONLY you will be encouraged to snoop, eavesdrop and be nosy alongside the CUTC theatre group as they uncover whodunit at the Murder at the Gala. You know you’re in for a treat when you’re drinks, and entrées come with a little murder on the side!
Modern Drugs and Belle Isle at Seven Saints Beer Garden - May 20
Summertime is just around the corner and the folks at Seven Saints hope you are ready to celebrate with them and of course Modern Drugs. The music group, Modern Drugs, that is. Seven Saints is kicking off outdoor concert season and their 15th anniversary with a raging ( all ages) patio party on May 20 with local favorites Modern Drugs and special guests Belle Isle. This is one kick off party involving Modern Drugs that you won’t want to miss!
New to CU Mixer - May 24
Moving to a new town can be rough unless that town happens to be Champaign! Debuting this month is the New to CU Mixer happening at local hotspot The Blind Pig Brewery. Sponsored by Chambana Welcome Crew, this May 24 mixer will pair up local townies with some of Champaign’s newest transients to show them how we do in ole CU. And just because I like you guys I’ll give you an early townie tip for free – Pizza will always taste better if you dip it in Monical’s French dressing #ISWIS

Summer Soul Fest - May 28
As the temperatures are rising you can’t tell me that kicking back with a drink and some sultry soul music doesn’t sound like the perfect combination. Get ready to get down with that #VIBE on May 28 when Pour Bros Taproom teams up with Tablefunk Muzik Group to bring you Summer Soul Fest. This Memorial Day weekend bash will combine the triple threat of smoke, brews and dj-ing to that will make every soulster hip to that jive.
Smooth Sailin Sunday : Yacht Rock Night - May 29
