Meet Our Executive Director

The Champaign Center Partnership is pleased to announce the appointment of Johnette Mitchell as its next Executive Director, bringing more than 25 years of award‑winning leadership in economic development, business district revitalization, and community empowerment to the organization.

Mitchell is a transformative strategist whose career has strengthened business corridors, expanded opportunities for underserved entrepreneurs, and united cross‑sector partners around bold, community‑driven solutions. Her experience spans corporate, nonprofit, and public‑private environments, with a proven record of building vibrant, inclusive districts that support long‑term economic vitality. Mitchell says her philosophy is “One person can start the momentum – but it’s a connected community that builds, sustains, and transforms a city.”

Most recently serving as Vice President of Treasury Relationship Management at First Mid Bank & Trust, Mitchell managed a portfolio of nearly 700 small businesses and nonprofits across Central Illinois—including Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, Rantoul, and Mahomet. Her leadership advanced financial access for minority‑owned businesses, strengthened underbanked communities, and guided data‑driven strategies addressing economic disparities throughout the region.

Mitchell’s deep community involvement includes board service and leadership with organizations such as the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club of Decatur, Richland Community College Foundation, and multiple regional economic development initiatives. She is widely recognized for her ability to activate communities, build trusted partnerships, and champion equitable growth.

“We are excited for Johnette’s genuine energy and vision, along with her ability and experience working with businesses of all shapes and sizes.” said Kevin Hildebrand, CCP Board Chair. “Her commitment to inclusive economic development and her strong relationships across the region make her an exceptional leader for Champaign Center Partnership as we continue strengthening all of our districts.”

Mitchell will officially begin her role as Executive Director on April 27th, 2026.
