How has your background and experience influenced the success of Trautman Real Estate Agency & Appraisal in Champaign, IL, and how does your Downtown Champaign location enhance your business operations?
I was born and raised in Champaign, went through the Unit 4 School District, and started my real estate career by getting my appraisal license in 2006. After that, I earned my broker’s license in 2008 and my managing broker’s license in 2015. In 2023, I decided to launch Trautman Real Estate Agency & Appraisal after years of hands-on experience. When I started Trautman Agency, my goal was to create a boutique real estate experience that stands out. We handle everything from sales to property management—both long-term and short-term rentals—and appraisals. Offering all these services gives us a well-rounded perspective and allows us to meet a variety of client needs.
Our office is right in Downtown Champaign, which is such a lively area full of great restaurants, local shops, and entertainment. It’s the perfect spot for locals and visitors alike. Our short-term rentals, like Airbnbs, are a big deal for tourism here, bringing in travelers who spend millions in the local economy and often fall in love with Champaign-Urbana. I love giving community tours to new professionals, like incoming doctors at Carle, new faculty or professors at the University of Illinois, and other newcomers, to show off all the amazing things our area offers.

Champaign-Urbana is growing steadily thanks to its affordability, strong job market, and the University of Illinois. Right now, we’re seeing more demand for affordable housing, a lot of interest in investment properties for short-term rentals, and ongoing development throughout Champaign County.

Over in Savoy, there’s a brand-new project in the works to create a full downtown experience, complete with retail, dining, and housing. These developments are all about building community and bringing fresh energy to the area.
As a member of the City of Champaign Planning Commission since 2017, I’m proud to play a part in shaping these changes.
